We’re still riding high on the wave of excitement from the first-ever WordCamp Malaysia 2023, which took place on September 9th, 2023, at CNICC in Kuala Lumpur.
This year’s WordCamp was a delightful two-day affair, starting with a memorable Contributor Day on September 8th, followed by the main event that brought together WordPress enthusiasts not just from across Malaysia, but with quite a few international visitors as well!

Contributor Day
Contributor Day, a core part of WordCamp, saw an impressive 82% turnout out of 68 signups. What’s even more inspiring is the diversity among our attendees:
- 21% were experienced contributors
- 50% were newcomers eager to dive into WordPress, and
- 29% had some prior experience with contributions.
This wonderful turnout reflects the growing interest and commitment within our WordPress community.
Conference Day
On the main event day, WordCamp Malaysia 2023 achieved a fantastic 87.5% turnout, with 280 tickets sold. This event marked a significant milestone as the first country-level WordCamp in Malaysia, following the success of previous WordCamp Kuala Lumpur events. The conference day was a bustling hub of networking, where attendees from various corners of Malaysia came together to celebrate their shared love for WordPress. The diverse crowd brought together individuals from different backgrounds, professions, and experiences, creating an atmosphere of inclusivity and camaraderie.
The day was not just about learning and sharing; it was about forging connections, building lasting relationships, and finding inspiration in the stories and experiences of fellow WordPress enthusiasts.
What added an extra layer of international flavor to the event was the presence of attendees from overseas. These WordPress enthusiasts from abroad not only enriched the discussions with their unique perspectives but also demonstrated the global appeal and reach of the WordPress community. Their presence was a testament to the unifying power of WordPress, transcending borders and cultures, and reinforcing our commitment to a truly global WordPress family.

WordCamp Malaysia 2023 was a heartwarming showcase of the WordPress spirit in Malaysia. Currently, we have four official WordPress meetup groups in Malaysia, located in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bahru, and Kota Kinabalu. We’re eager to expand further, and we invite anyone interested in organizing WordPress meetup groups in other states to submit their applications.
